If you would like to direct a domain address that you have to some other domain or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's directed to. That way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be pointed to the Internet site that you've set up, but it'll also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record created for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Managing DNS records usually seems to be a challenging task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each and every Linux semi-dedicated service that we offer, is extremely easy to use. If you want to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you will have to do will be to pick the domain or subdomain that you need, choose the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then enter the value i.e. the domain address or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is very easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record will be completely active and within a couple of hours it is going to propagate all over the world. If you aren't sure what you should do, we've prepared a comprehensive help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both located in that very same section of Hepsia. Of course, you can also get in touch with us for assistance whenever you want.
