Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange data between a server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is encoded, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of handling a website hosting account. The commands that may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for instance, the options are limited since you shall not have root access to the web server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. They're all actions which are performed in the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or just a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are a number of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote server as well.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Web Hosting
SSH access is provided with all cloud web hosting that we provide. With some of them, it's included as standard, while with others it is an optional upgrade that you can include with a couple of mouse clicks from your hosting CP. You could get SSH access from the section related to it in which you shall also find the information which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to choose the password which you shall use and, if necessary, you shall be able to modify it with a couple of clicks from the same place. All of the commands which could be used with our shared plans are listed in a help article along with relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you shall be able to obtain SSH access to it with only a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting CP, provided with all accounts. If your plan doesn't support this feature by default, you shall be able to include it without difficulty via the Upgrades menu. As soon as you go to the SSH section, you will find the details that you need to connect to the server via a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, if necessary. These login credentials are also needed if you want to upload files via a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we offer you. An extensive list of the commands that you can carry out shall provide you with a better idea of what tasks you could perform within your account and each one is accompanied by a few examples of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server packages include SSH access as standard, so you will not need to include any upgrades or enable anything - the instant the server is set up and you receive its login information, you shall be able to connect via its primary IP address and the login credentials which you've selected during the signup procedure. Since the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions with regards to the commands which you can run. Your server shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you shall be able to manage just about everything using a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. This way, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any apps that you install in a fast and safe way.
