An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a computer and works as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it transfers requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, hosting servers also have an Operating System that functions as a host for the software installed on them, which includes script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you'll be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server packages come with three Linux distributions which you could select from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being totally free, the OSs are very stable and protected and the main reason to offer all three of them is to ensure that you can run any application that you would like, since different pieces of software could have different requirements for the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is backed by a huge community of web developers who have produced thousands of software packages which you can install and use on your VPS. In accordance with the Operating System that you pick, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to manage your hosting content. Needless to say, should you decide that you need a new OS, we can always re-install the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for max stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a broader choice with regard to the system environment on your server as different apps may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and risk-free hosting service. Depending on your decision, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you have selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software which you would like to run. We can also update your OS regularly to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
